About The Owners
Melanie (17), Tracey (Adult) and Olivia (13)
Tracey:
Favourite Breed and Why? My favourite breed is the Chocolate Himialayan because I love their colour and they seem to have a pleasent personality. They also are quite calm and docile compared some of the other breeds in our shed. Its a challenge when breeding them to get nice dark p oints - the smut, ear and feet, we are yet to have a litter but i think the challenge will be fun. I've always liked animals with these marking for example I have a seal point birman cat and he has simialar markings.
What Breed(s) do you focus on? Mainly Choc himis and whites, I love both of these breeds especially the himis for there colour and its going to be a challenge to improve their type and colour in every litter. I have to make sure they dont get smudging from sudden change in temperture and the heat. So there are a few extra things we need to do to prevent that but they are a lovely natured breed. I like the whites as my late self PE white Aleuka Frostbite (RIP) just took my heart he was beautiful and very special to me. I love the colour of pure white and I just want to keep trying to improve their type in our lines and produce more gorgous pigs like my boy Frostbite.
Do you have any favourite pig(s)? Its veryy hard to chose a favourite out of all my piggies but I would say its my two himis Bakerville Snowtiger and Bakerville Golden Gift that I prefer more as they both have such lovely and quite temperements. They are very similair in the way they are - they both just love to snuggle into your neck they would sit there for hours if they were allowed to. When I groom them for the show they just sit there talking away and its so nice to have ones that do just that. Plus Snowtiger was my first piggy that I got a major award with which I will always remember.
Any Special Awards? The most special award I got was with Bakerville Snowtiger my chocolate Himialayan which was reserve 3-6 months. I was so proud of him and myself for getting this award we recived a sash and trophy. My first ever reward that I have received for anything.
What do you like about breeding, showing and owning Cavies? I love owning cavies as they all have different personalities and bring me so much joy in my life. I am so glad we got into this hobby as they are beautiful animals. They make me smile when i'm down, when ever I need to relax I go out and watch them be them, cuddle or just talk to them. They always make me feel better. I love breeding cavies because I enjoy seeing what our pigs produce and I like to improve their type and colour for showing. I like to say we breed that one and its special to watch them grow and see how weel they go in the future weather that be breeding, showing or just being a pet. I enjoy showing cavies as its completly different any showing of other animals. You grow a special bond with your cavies and putting them on a show table and showing them off its just so special and exciting. If you get not place its still a wonderful experience to show them. I will admit its nice to get an award for all the work you put into them and how its shows. I feel so proud when a pig recevies an award. I would never imagined breeding and showing cavies but now I couldn't imagine my life with out them in it.
Melanie:
Favourite Breed and Why? Self, Crested and American crested Creams because I love their personalities, the way they love attention, snuggles, the way they are so vocal and I just love their colour. There really is nothing to not like about the creams.
What Breed(s) do you focus on? I focus on improving the Self and Crested cream breeds. I hope to improve their under colour which is something common in this colour. I also hope to improve the eveness of colour and their type in my lines. The cream breed is what I'm passionate about and hope to show that in the future when more are breed. I with my mum breed the Self and Crested white breeds in PE, these are a sweet breed which are hard to keep clean but that is a good challange. The whites are the breeds my mum and I do together, as we both got a self white each when we first got our stock. I also enjoy longhairs, we have only had one litter of longhairs but I hope to have more. My first longhair was from Westlaing cavy stud and she was a black and gold coronet, I showed her for 9 months before having to cut her due to getting grumpy. She won multipule best of breeds, a few best in groups and a best and reserve 6-9 months in show. I enjoy being able to put a longhair on the table after all the hard work you put into them. I hope to have the same success with our own breed longs.
Do you have any favourite pig(s)? I love all the pigs in our shed. But my two self creams Lesory Sparkle Rose and Tarrawonga are very special too me. Both have under gone surgieries. I was with them when they were sick and when they were recovering. I bonded and became very close with both of these pigs. Rose turned from a cow of a thing to an amazingly sweet girl and Soshone tunred from a shy, skittish girl to a very confident and happy thing.
Any Special Awards? The most special awards for me well there are a few. The first would be when I got my first ever sash, this was in the pet section with my first cavy Tigerlilly. The next would have to be winning my first ever best of breed with Lesory Sparkle Rose. For many shows I went and rechived nothing so to finally get my first award was pretty amazing. Another award that I got was best 3-6 months cavy in show and this is when I rechived my first ever pedigree sash, again this was with Lesory Sparkle Rose. I think another big mile stone is winning a few best in groups with my longhair Westlaing Celeste. Getting our first best of breed for our own breed cavy was also a pretty big award in my eyes. The last special award would have to be getting Most Sucessful Junior Handler Of The Year with Lesory Sparkle Rose at the Hobart Cavy Club Annual Awards 2012.
What do you like about breeding, showing and owning Cavies? Whats not to like? I love owning cavies because they are such a small creature packed with loads of personality, character and love. They are such vocal animals and its great to just walk outside of morning before school and hear them say hello. I wouldn't have it any other way. They are quite smart too, they know the sound of the fridge door opening and the rattle of a plastic bag. They will call out for food as soon as they hear these sounds. I enjoy breeding cavies as its great to watch the babies grow from such a tiny thing to a big buddha. I love having many pigs who are breed by us its such a great thing feeling putting something you've breed on to the show table. I love showing cavies as the cavy fancy is full of many helpful and friendly people who share the same passion for cavies as you do I also enjoy putting pigs on a show mat and taking them up to the judge and hearing what they have to say about them.

Any Special Awards? In the pet section my first guinea pig Candy got overall fastest eater three times and one of the times she got a trophy. I got my first sashs in the pedigree section for Aziza Seceret Shuffler (Best 3-6 months in show) and Aleuka Devils Sugarplum (Best 6-9 months in show).
What do you like about breeding, showing and owning Cavies? It is interesting to see how big pregnant pigs can get, what their babies look like/turn out like/what they will be/their sex(boar or sow) and what their personalities are like. I like owning guinea pigs because they cheer you up when your down. I like to show my pigs because I love to go to the shows, i like to see what other people win, I like to win but most important is ITS FUN!
