The stud is owned by Tracey, Melanie and Olivia, a mother and daugther trio who share their love for cavies.
The love for cavies started with Tigerlilly,
a longhair X Red Roan pet. After much asking and begging Melanie was finally
able to get her first Guinea Pig on the 9th of october. She was bought from
pets domain after falling in love with her. It wasn't long after that she came
across a fourm by the name of Australian National Cavy Fanicers,
after signing up and introducing herself she was informed of the
Hobart Cavy Club and decided to go to her first show. At the
show Tracey and Melanie watched the other exhibiters with their cavies. They
all seemed to have so much passion for them that you couldn't even imagine, It was
here that they found a new understanding of this amazing creature. At their
first show they brought their first pedigree, she was a english self cream DE
named Lesory Sparkle Rose (Lesory Stud). This is where they feel in love with
the self cream breed. After the first show they soon started attending the shows
held once a month and found their cavy friends and pets growing. Soon after
buying Rose. OIivia got her own pet Golden American Crested (Bakerville Stud).
From then on the three were in love with the animal.
In March 2011 they decided on
becoming breeders but first wanted to find out as much as they could about
cavies. After much thought we finally decided on our prefix and breeds. We
would be called Stagazer Cavy Stud and we would breed Self and Crested Creams
and Whites. The creams were a must seeing as our first pedigree was in fact a
Sel DE Cream(Thanks to Joanne Birch from Lesory Cavy Stud) and the white just
followed. We were lucky enough to have great foundation stock from Aleuka Cavy
Stud. Sophie Anderson was a huge help in getting us starting and we thank her
greatly if it wasn't for her we wouldn't be where we are now. Our foundation
stock was made up of a self PE white sow, Self PE Boar, Self DE Cream Boar
a self DE cream sow and a crested DE cream boar.
In October 2011 we added two new
breeds to the stud. Chocolate Himialayans & Shelties. Olivia had
already owned(thanks again to Aleuka Cavy Stud) a Chocolate Himalayan in which
she brought for showing. Emily Vince from Bakerville Cavy Stud offered us a
Chocolate Himialayan boar and it was an offer we could not refuse. As we had
already fallen in love with the breed. So with on going help and
support from Emily we have gotten our Chocolate Himalayans up and running and
have even had some sucess on the table with stock we were given. Melanie
had been showing her own coronet(thanks to Westlaing Cavy Stud) for a while now and it
was our plan to breed from her once she finished on the show table. But before then we
were offered a breeding pair from the Hepworths from Aziza Cavy Stud. We thought about
it and decided we would take up the offer. The shelties will only be breed ocassionley.
We are only going to breed for a show long or two once or twice a year, so that we will
only have one or two in coat for ourselves but we will still have some for sale every
now and again.
In the middle of 2012, we added one
more breed to the list American Crested Creams - a beautiful breed mixing both
the cream and white into one cavy. A breed which we never thought we
would be able to breed but yet again thanks to a very helpful Emily
(Bakerville Cavy Stud) we added them to our shed. This is still
very new to us but we hope to learn more and breed some of our
own "show" worthy cavies - one day in the future, atleast. So thanks
to Emily for all her help so far!
At the end of 2012, we added two more
breeds to our list. Again with help from the love Emily (Bakerville), we
added Self and american crested buff. A beautiful colour that both Tracey and
Phillip have fallen love in with. Seeing as buff, white and cream all
go hand in hand it only seems right to add them to our list. We will hopefully be
having quite a few of these breeds in our shed in the future which is
very exciting.
We one day hope to become as sucessful
as some of the exhibiters we have met and seen. We are only starting out but
have a lot of knowledge about breeding, exhibiting and cavies so far. We have done
quite well on the table with some of our biggest achivements being Best Juinor Handler,
Best Marked, Best Longhair, Best and reserve 3-6 months in show and Best and
reserve 6-9 months in show. We hope to continue doing well, a big goal for
us is to get a best in group or best age group in show with a cavy we
have breed ourselves. It won't be easy but theres no reason not try!
